:Compared to recent states I listed, I am glad that residents in South Carolina can have various choices to pick from for autism and driving resources. Let me know by comments or messaging if there were a resource you would like to add. As always, thank you for using this resource and have a wonderful day!

Driving Schools:

aLord Ashley Driving School

Their website has a page on special needs and it lists disabilities like autism and ADHD. Their instructors are able to teach students of all levels to be safe drivers and not be shy about doing so. Each instructor is paired to students based on individual needs. For their main educational courses, pricing is listed for each one.

Non-Driving Schools:

Roper Rehabilitation Hospital

Partnered with aLord Ashley Driving School, their Driving Solutions program provides driver services to individuals of various conditions. To be part of this program, you must have your medical history, current prescription, diagnosis, and current permit/license/ or state ID. The program goes over safe driving lessons you can learn. Payment-wise, insurance does not cover this program.

Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Hospital

Located in Greenville, they provide a series of evaluations that goes over all the cognition and motor skills needed to drive safely. Once the assessments are complete, families and individuals get a recommendation for the next steps.  Payment-wise, insurance covers the clinical section, but not for the on-road section. Private insurance could help with cost, depending on the provider.

Initiatives:

Autism designation in ID card

Passed in 2017, they are used to enhance communication between the officer and the individual.
