*August 17th, 2023, Update: New program added. * Driving Schools: Top Driver This driving school has an active ADHD and executive functioning program for those populations. Their specialized program has an individualized plan, 18-hour road lessons and a "parent care" pre license training course. This program was created through a collaboration with Behind the Wheel with ADHD. Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital They offer driver education for individuals with disabilities over at Wheaton, Illinois. They provide evaluation and an education program for new drivers. Referral from a physician and being age 15 is recommended for being in this program. Non-Driving Schools: NorthShore Their driving program evaluates individuals with physical and mental disabilities in their ability to drive. The two components within this program are a clinical evaluation and a behind the wheel evaluation. They use information from medical and social history to make a recommendation. Strive For Independence Staffed by experienced OTs with driver rehab backgrounds, they provide driver readiness evaluations, full evaluations, and behind the wheel lessons. On their home page, autism along with other disabilities are mentioned as populations they work with. Like Connecticut’s traffic stop practice, Strive for Independence offers a two-hour course where drivers get to experience traffic stops in a controlled environment. Easterseals Rehabilitation Center Illinois Hosted by the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center's Assistive Technology Solutions, they provide driver rehab services for individuals. They do clinical assessments and evaluation along with driver training to help individuals be at ease with driving. There is no word on pricing, so you would have to contact them to obtain that information. Initiatives: Disability identification Card No word if this is optional or not, so it is up to you to decide with this choice.

Driving Schools: N/A as of June 30th, 2023. Non-Driving Schools: Ability KC This organization has been going since 1978 helping adults drive behind the wheel. Their therapists are specialized in doing driving assessments and training of various disabilities like autism, ADHD, and other conditions. Evaluations include driver's safety and control, use of adaptive equipment, and clinical testing. Driving Schools: N/A as of June 30th, 2023. Non-Driving Schools: Drive Rehab Hawaii Services include driver education, training, evaluation, consultation, and on-road assessments. Evaluations cover physical, cognitive, visual, perceptual, and behavioral skills of individuals. It is worth noting that Sandra Wataoka is one of the very few driver rehab specialists in Hawaii. As of 5/27/2023, this provider is not accepting clients for now. Just like Wyoming, I could not find a single resource on driving in Alaska. Driving Schools: N/A Non-Driving Schools: N/A Initiatives: Disability designator on ID card It alerts law officers to the individual's disability during a situation. It is also voluntary. Unlike recent states I have covered, this state has some more options for rehab programs. Non-Driving Schools: Northwest Driver Rehab This organization is run by driver rehab specialist, Mark Russel, who provides driver rehab services such as clinical and behind the wheel evaluations, driver training, and vehicle evaluation modification. This organization is a member of the ADED and a certified driver rehab specialist. Referrals can be done by family members, friends, and therapists. Payment wise, they do not accept insurance. Drive Rehab Services They provide both clinical and behind the wheel evaluations to create recommendations for someone on going forward or not on driving. Other services include driving rehab training, vehicle tech consultation, and vehicle check at dealership. Payment wise, they accept different funding sources like the department of labor and Industries, department of vocational rehabilitation, Northwest Access Fund, and mobility dealerships. Like Utah and other states, this is a state where you probably have to research regular driving schools to find the right place for you. They do a series of evaluations like pre road, behind the wheel, and vehicle modification. They also work on driver's training and rehabilitation to learn driving skills. Non-Driving Schools: St. Luke's Rehabilitation This Boise, Idaho Hospital provides services such as pre-driving assessments, on-road driving evaluation, and driver's training. To get into this program, a doctor's order is needed. Initiatives: Post Falls Police’s ID cards Helping the communication between officers and autistics. I am shocked that the state of Nevada, which has Las Vegas, has very little resources and specialized driving schools. The Advance rehab place was the only one I could find. *Update 8/08/2023: Added an Individuals section and listing here* Driving School: N/A Non-Driving Schools: Advanced Driving Rehab In Las Vegas, this organization handles driving evaluation at home, equipment evaluations, and tutoring for DMV instruction as well. Individuals: Debbie Hansen OTR/L, CHT, CDRS She has provided several presentations on the topic of autism and driving, and she is also a certified rehab specialist. Her areas include North Las Vegas and Henderson along with Touro University. She also offers mentoring services for those who need more assistance with driving skills. Like the states with the least number of resources, you are likely to search through regular driving schools to find the right one for you. I hope I can find resources for this state in the future. Driving Schools: Driving to Independence In New Mexico, their services involve driver assessment, evaluations, bioptic training, and senior safety. They cover a variety of disabilities, autism, learning disabilities, and other conditions like stroke. Clinical assessment goes over cognitive and visual aspects of driving tasks in order to provide a recommendation after the behind the wheel assessment. Payment-wise, they have funders that can be contacted, and they have more information about them on their resource page. They also have a location in Arizona.
