Here are the resources from my initial research for Texas. There are many more non-driving school programs here than in other states. Depending on your level of need, you may have to use multiple services to make the most out of your journey. As always, comment below or message me if I missed any programs. I will add it here overtime. Thank you for using this resource and have a wonderful day! Driving Schools: HD Driving School Related to the Functional Stability & Mobility, they provide both in-person and online driver education, behind the wheel lessons, driver skills bootcamp, and evaluations. They accept a referral form, which is on their website and something for providers. Non-Driving Schools Safe Driving Rehab Melissa Bell is an OT with driver rehab specialist certifications who provides a variety of services for those interested in driving. She covers services to the medical setting, driver education lessons, age related lessons, driver readiness for teens, assistive tech, and driver assessments/training. She also works for the St. David’s Rehabilitation Hospital for their driver program. For the rest of the pages, she has a blog page, resource page, and FAQ page that goes over specific information like paying with insurance as a example. St. David’s Rehabilitation Hospital Over at Central Texas, they tackle both the evaluation and adaptive tech processes. Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation - Dallas They have three locations for this program, which are the Dallas, Frisco, and Las Colinas areas. The program does clinical and on road assessments, Identifying assistive tech for your car, and assistance on licensing tests from the state. They provide these services for autistic individuals and other mental and physical disabilities. Finally, they have a FAQ which goes more into the program’s specifics. Functional Stability & Mobility, LLC One of their main functions is their driver readiness consultation where you can go over general concerns and goals you have for driving. Like other places, they do both clinical and behind the wheel assessments. Afterwards, they do have lessons for new drivers and those who used assistive tech cars. One of their more interesting services is their 9-week driving bootcamp series that teens and young adult take to gain driver readiness skills. Lastly, they have a blog page and rosources pages for people to use. Texas Health Resources Located in Arlington, Fort Worth, and Willow Park, they provide clinical assessments, behind the wheel assessments, vision testing, and driving stimulator use. Strowmatt Rehabilitation Services Located in Houston, Strowmatt is a licensed driving school in the state. They provide clinical, behind the wheel and assistive tech evaluations for individuals. While autism was not mentioned, they had an ADHD page on the disability page. The possibility is still there that they provide lessons for the autism community. Initiatives: Texas Driving with Disability Like the blue envelope in Connecticut, this program aims to improve relations between driving with disabilities and police officers. It is a code that you put into your license where officers see it and will know what to do. The programs include law enforcement training by pages and videos, and the Samuel Allen Law. If you are interested in checking out my main website, this is the link to go back to home menu. Book me for your next autism event.
